Frugal Online Roulette

It’s a common rule that a strategy-based game has a higher win percentage than more luck-based games such as online slots or roulette. However, there’s another side to this. It is easier to win at a game such as poker, but at the same time, it is easier to lose a lot of money all at once.

In roulette, you make a bet for each spin of the wheel. In tournament poker games, you bet at every round and the pool rises. So while it is easier to win the game itself, it is a much faster paced game where the betting can quickly get out of control. You might lose a lot more in one round than in a game like slots or roulette.

That said, you could safely play an online roulette program and bet the house. You can make major bets in roulette as well; it depends on the limit of the table. However, losing a major pot is not as common as it is with a game like poker. That is, if you play the game intelligently.

As with frugal blackjack or frugal video poker, the trick to frugal roulette is to build up credits incrementally. To start, put down a minimum bet, and then put down the same bet for a few rounds. Some internet roulette players keep betting the same number and keep rolling until that number hits, feeling that a number is “due.” More often, roulette players choose a new number every time, relying on their gut and the statistical probability of a roll. If the wheel hit the same number twice in the space of five rolls, it is less probable that it would happen again. This is an extreme example but it shows that roulette spinning isn’t entirely arbitrary.

So long as you have a low starting bet, rest assured that you won’t lose too much with each spin of the wheel. A straight up bet--when the ball falls on your exact number--will normally pay 35 to 1. You’ve only put in one credit and you could potentially win 35 back. If you do win a straight-up bet, you could then think about betting two credits per number. The straight-up bet would then pay $70 on a dollar chip.

You can find online roulette tables for lower rollers as well. The same principle still applies. Bet low, see if you win a few, and raise the bet as you earn more credits.

Betting combinations don’t stop with a straight up roll. Instead of betting one number with two credits, you could spread it out to two different numbers. The odds are better for this type of bet and as a result, the payout is 17 to 1. A three-number bet normally pays out 11 to 1. A six number bet pays 5 to 1.

While you have a much better chance of winning a six number bet, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you should immediately start betting six numbers a spin. If you’re not careful, you could run through your money quickly. Look at it this way: with a six number spin that pays 5 to 1, you’re already losing 4 of those bets as only one number can be a straight-up hit. So even if one number pays 5 to 1, you’ll have to subtract four bets from that total. It can be a slim payout. It depends on a player’s style, ultimately, but generally, you have a better chance of building a purse with smaller bets that have a larger payout, such as single number bets.
